Who We Are

We are a small team with a big vision for schools without standardized tests. We’re building tiro, a tool for teachers to change the way assessment works in a student’s education. We also created rubigo, a library of free rubrics for teachers to share with each other. The core products are built – it’s time to get them into classrooms everywhere.

Our goal for the coming year is to draw as many users as possible to our free products. Currently, it takes hours to grade students’ work, making it difficult to also give meaningful feedback and examine class-wide trends. With an easy-to-understand data dashboard, we transform cold numbers into humanized descriptions of students’ learning progress. Read more at tiro.org or check out our campaign on wefunder.

We are located in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, South Carolina, and Barcelona. As current and former educators, we’ve built a culture of experimentation and learning. Fail, learn, and grow are our middle names. (We have long names.)

Who You Are (or Almost Are)

Requirements:

  • Able to translate ideas into code prototypes quickly
  • Built your own full-stack web apps from scratch
  • Experienced with React, Next.js, and similar frameworks*
  • Experienced with SQL/Postgres Databases*
  • Strong CSS and design skills
  • 1+ year of product development or as a PM
  • Interested in working 5-15 hrs/wk for a 2-year contract
  • Able to meet via video conference with project managers in both the Pacific and Eastern time zones as well as a designer in Spain
  • Able to work well solo or with a diverse group of people
  • Learn, teach, and think creatively with colleagues or solo
    *Quick learners do not need all these languages.

Bonus points if you have:

  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Education.
  • Experience building teams, interviewing, or hiring.
  • Knowledge of the edtech market landscape.

What You’ll Do

  • Build and optimize tools for teachers and their students.
  • Launch new products and features, test their performance, and iterate quickly.
  • Build and manage a team of college-level interns.
  • Collaborate to design and build interfaces that facilitate:
    • Assessment construction,
    • Taking tests,
    • Grading assessments, and
    • Understanding complex data.
  • Collaborate with our team to support our product roadmap.
  • Empathize with teachers’ responsibilities and realities to build a movement supporting a new conversation around assessment.
  • Build and reinforce a culture where every team member has equal voice, independence, and agency.

You Should Know

  • Together, we’ll co-create an independent contractor statement of work. At the end of a year, if we mutually decide to continue your contract, ownership equity will be an option as part of your compensation.
  • You need to be able to provide your own laptop and work-space. Currently, we do not offer benefits such as health-care or retirement savings, but we will in the future.
  • We are a pre-revenue company. We love the excitement of building a company from the ground up and we hope you do too.
