Overview

The Development Coordinator will be responsible for creating and deepening relationships with donors. A good fit for this position will have some experience with more traditional fundraising strategies, but also be willing to try new fundraising strategies and technologies. While this position is part of the Marketing and Development Team, this individual must be able to work independently and have an ability to prioritize their most important tasks daily. The workload is seasonal, meaning the position will have a different focus depending on the time of year. The position reports to the Vice President of Marketing & Development and will work closely with the Marketing Coordinator and members of the AdoptAClassroom.org Leadership Team.

Duties and Responsibilities

Donor Cultivation and Stewardship

  • Develop, maintain, and deepen donor relationships through virtual and in-person meetings, communications, social media, and planned schedule of stewardship activities.
  • Support and maintain relationships with foundations and grant officers.
  • Answer donor questions escalated by the organization’s Teacher Services Team.
  • Support the development of a planned giving program in collaboration with the Executive Director.
  • Develop channels for feedback from donors to improve fundraising.
  • Update donor recognition and donor communications materials on an annual basis.
  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of the organization’s crowdfunding platform, current program objectives, financial needs, organizational goals, and growth areas.

Support Fundraising Events and Campaigns

  • Organize several fundraising events, including a virtual annual fundraiser, and in-person events.
  • Develop an annual fundraising plan with strategies to renew and expand donor base and strengthen relationships with donors.
  • Advise and work with AAC staff and partners on individual donor campaign planning and strategies.
  • Contribute copy and provide input on organizational communications, including the monthly e-newsletter, other email campaigns, annual report, website, social media, and blog communications as needed.
  • Work with the marketing team to ensure that the organization is up to date on emerging trends, new platforms, and best practices in fundraising.

Data Entry and Reporting

  • Support data entry of the donor database regarding prospect and donor tracking, including notes from donor interactions.
  • Understand donation recording policy and procedures and collaborate with the team on updates when needed.
  • Report on donor metrics monthly and quarterly.

Minimum experience required to be successful in this position:

  • 1+ years work experience in fundraising and development, experience managing a small donor portfolio a plus
  • Technical skills required: Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite.
  • Experience with online and/or offline event planning.
  • Organized and able to manage projects.
  • Comfortable asking potential donors to donate on the phone, in-person, or over email.
  • Familiarity with supporting marketing/communication as it relates to fundraising communications.
  • Ability to connect with unfamiliar people and to develop and nurture new relationships.
  • Ability to work independently and interact positively with donors and supporters, board members, staff, volunteers, contractors, partners, decision-makers and the public.
  • Desire to be part of a nonprofit organization experiencing rapid growth.

Preferred experience to be successful in this position: 

  • Passionate about crowdfunding, peer-to-peer fundraising, and emerging technology or trends.
  • Enthusiasm for brainstorming and generating fresh, creative ideas.
  • Familiar with CRM and/or Database systems like Salesforce and Blackbaud.

Compensation ranges from $42,000-62,000 per year, depending on experience. This full-time position offers benefits including healthcare (plus dental and vision), paid holidays, paid time off, 401K and employer match, a one-time $500 work-from-home stipend, plus opportunities for growth. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, some employees may qualify for Public Service Student Loan Forgiveness.

This position can be 100% remote, but may require occasional travel within the U.S. AdoptAClassroom.org is headquartered in Minneapolis-St.Paul, though we do have staff in satellite locations outside of Minnesota. Staff local to Minneapolis, MN can have access to our downtown office to work daily. Our office work environment is professional, tech-based, fast-paced, collaborative, relaxed, and friendly.
