Overview
With a purpose to transform the educational experience for students, teachers and communities by embedding empathy, informed investigation, and civic action within public school classrooms, Need in Deed (NID) is seeking a program manager to join us in our effort to train, coach, and support Philadelphia public school teachers as they implement our My Voice framework.
We are committed to the belief that students should have an active voice in their classroom and communities. Students’ voices are powerful and valid. Our model encourages teachers to amplify the voices of the students in their classrooms and guide them in addressing the social issues that concern them.
Position Overview
Support 1st and 2nd year Need in Deed Teacher Network members in the facilitation of Need in Deed’s My Voice service-learning framework in classrooms. Collaborate with program staff to develop professional development workshops and strategies. Work with program staff to develop activities, lesson plans, and support materials for the My Voice framework
Specific Areas of Responsibility:
Coach Teacher Network members in service-learning theory and practice through formal and informal professional development sessions and classroom visits
Assist teachers in aligning their curriculum with the My Voice framework
Cultivate relationships with community partners; schedule classroom visits, research ideas for field trips and service-learning projects
Maintain database of resources for service-learning projects, including books, videos, and other materials
Help with planning and hosting NID events
Maintain records of project activities for assigned teachers and communicate project successes and challenges with supervisor and NID staff
Education
Bachelor’s degree required; master’s preferred
Desirable characteristics and areas of expertise:Experience training/coaching K-12 teachers, preferably in an urban setting
Three years experience teaching in public school classrooms, preferably in an urban setting
Experience in conducting high-quality service-learning projects with K-12 students, preferably in an urban setting
Committed to the equitable education of all children
Access to reliable transportation
Team oriented
Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal, presentation, and organizational skills
Salary Commensurate with education and experience
Salary range: $50K to 60K
