Overview
Role Description:
Global Rights for Women (GRW) is a fast-growing, international nonprofit organization based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, that is looking for an exceptional Director of Operations (DOO) to guide the organization through its next phase of growth. The DOO will have primary responsibility for establishing and driving the systems and structures that keep the organization on a sustainable growth trajectory: overseeing operations, staff support and recruiting functions; leading the financial function; and guiding overall strategy execution according to real-time needs and in alignment with GRW’s values, mission, and goals. The DOO will report to the Executive Director and work closely with GRW’s Leadership Team. This position will directly manage the Finance Manager and will be accountable for managing the organization’s administrative and HR talent processes.
Job Functions:
Leadership & Management
The COO provides a strong day-to-day leadership presence for all staff and serves as a trusted partner to the Leadership Team and Board, prioritizing the organization’s mission and living into and stewarding GRW’s organizational values.
● Provide a strong day-to-day leadership presence, bridge development and program operations and support an open-door policy among all staff
● Lead all internal operations (policy, process and execution)
● Cultivate the values of Global Rights for Women and ensure they are consistently reflected across staffing, leadership, HR, daily operations, and in alignment with strategic plan and long-term vision
● Shepherd the organization through change management as new initiatives, designs, and approaches arise
● Support strategic planning process in partnership with the Executive Director, and ensure appropriate infrastructure and funding is or can be in place to achieve GRW’s strategic goals
● Identify trends and best practices across peer NGOs to inform GRW’s operational priorities and design
Operations
The DOO will provide the internal operations infrastructure for the organization.
● Identify and implement structures and systems that enable staff to thrive and that ensure the organization continues on a successful and sustainable growth trajectory
● Analyze the current technology infrastructure and scope out the next level of information technology and financial systems that maintain and promote organizational excellence
● Ensure an appropriate level of risk management across personnel, contracts, teammate agreements, and vendor relationships
● Oversee and delegate office management functions and needs to optimize staff workflow
Finance
The DOO will coordinate finance functions, overseeing and working closely with the Finance Manager. These functions will also be in close partnership and coordination with the Board Finance Committee and Executive Director.
● Ensure the continued effective, and sustainable annual budgeting, cash management, forecasting, and multi-year financial modeling, in alignment with GRW’s strategic direction
● Capture, analyze, and share key financial information to inform decision-making at all levels of the organization
● Coordinate annual audit in partnership with the Finance Manager and Executive Director
● Engage the Board Finance Committee and Board at large on questions of strategic finance, investments, and financial health
● In partnership with Executive Director, support fundraising activities by building fundraising and revenue infrastructure (e.g., revenue tracking and reporting processes, donor retention and growth plan, and foundational technology) to support a growth trajectory
Staffing and Human Resources
The DOO will build and maintain an organizational culture that includes and prioritizes a reliable system of HR support; recruiting; engagement and retention; training, coaching and talent development; performance evaluation; compensation and benefits; and diversity and inclusion.
Staff Engagement, Support & Development:
● Drive employee engagement efforts, in line with similar organizations and market
● Lead annual performance review process
● Oversee and coordinate implementation of appropriate benefits packages and salary reviews in alignment with competitive nonprofit standards
● Implement PTO, holiday benefits, and related policies
Recruiting & Hiring:
● In coordination with Executive Director and Board, oversee organizational design based on GRW’s needs, strategy, budget, and other key inputs
● Implement recruiting and hiring processes
● Drive diversity, equity and inclusion policies and practices in alignment with GRW’s values
● Coordinate the recruitment of consultants or other staff enhancement resources
Key Qualifications
Requirements:
● Minimum of 10 years in nonprofit or business operations and management
● Experience managing a $1M+ annual budget
● Proven ability to forecast financial models, control expenses, and implement processes and systems that support sustainable organizational growth
● Track record of building and leading diverse teams
● Skillful relationship-building and communications skills across a wide and diverse range of stakeholders (e.g., on-site and remote team members, Board Members, external partners, donors)
Preferred Experiences:
● A passion for Global Rights for Women’s mission and the field of international women’s human rights – and demonstrated knowledge and experience in this field
● Experience working for a global / international organization
● Demonstrated capacity as a strategic thinker who understands how operations and finances support the broader mission of an organization
● Experience in revenue development strategies, including fundraising and grant contracts
● Experience in nonprofit financial management and annual audits
● Strong and demonstrated commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion
● Track record of scaling and effectively managing growth according to a strategic plan
Must be eligible to work in the United States.
Annual Compensation
Salary range depending on experience $60,000-72,000. Compensation includes benefits and generous PTO. A hybrid working arrangement is negotiable.
