This Is My Brave, the nation’s leading mental health storytelling nonprofit, seeks a Director of Development to design and implement a comprehensive development strategy to uphold our mission, increase support and position us for significant growth.
At This Is My Brave, we know that mental illness and substance use disorder do not discriminate and to best serve all impacted by these life experiences we must create a diverse staff that is representative of the communities whose stories we amplify. The Director of Development will be responsible for cultivating and maintaining relationships with donors, identifying new funding sources, shaping fundraising campaigns, and eventually supervising development staff. The Director of Development will work closely with the Executive Director to set and achieve development goals
Responsibilities include:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan that includes a plan for establishing national corporate sponsorships, major gifts, planned giving, grants, and events.
- Generate ideas on increasing revenue and donor loyalty.
- Find ways to convert Brave fans and ambassadors into recurring givers.
- Build and nurture relationships with donors, prospects, and other stakeholders through regular communication, meetings, and events.
- Conduct prospect research to identify new sources of funding and develop strategies for solicitation.
- Prepare proposals and grant applications for foundation and corporate funders.
- Collaborate with the communications team to ensure consistent messaging across all fundraising and marketing materials.
- Monitor fundraising progress and provide regular updates to the Executive Director.
- Develop and manage the development budget, including revenue projections and expenses.
- Ensure compliance with all legal and ethical fundraising standards.
Qualifications:
- Passion for mental health advocacy and a commitment to This Is My Brave’s mission and vision.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, nonprofit management, or a related field; or equivalent experience with a proven track record.
- Experience with CRMs.
- At least 3-5 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, with a track record of success in national sponsorships, major gifts, grants, and event fundraising.
- Demonstrated ability to cultivate and maintain relationships with donors, prospects, and other stakeholders.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to create messaging that offers a compelling case for support.
- Knowledge of fundraising best practices, including moves management, donor stewardship, and prospect research.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

About THIS IS MY BRAVE INC
This Is My Brave works to erase stigma by offering a spotlight to those who live bravely through mental health challenges and/or substance use disorders. Our flagship program, This Is My Brave - The Show, is a stage production of individuals who share their stories through poetry, song, essay, dance, or even stand-up comedy performances. To date, This Is My Brave has produced over 90 unique live and virtual performances across the US featuring nearly 1,000 individuals from all walks of life. The mission of This Is My Brave is to empower individuals to put their names and faces to their personal stories of recovery in order to break down stigma and offer hope to others.
