Overview
Role Overview:
Vot-ER is seeking a full-time Deputy Director to develop, implement, and grow the organization’s Community Civic Engagement Program (CCEP). In 2022, the CCEP was the single most impactful program at Vot-ER in directly helping patients to vote. CCEP builds the civic power of the patients and staff of Community Health Centers (CHCs) and Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) by engaging these partners through mini-grants and training opportunities. CCEP seeks to intentionally work with CHCs and FQHCs, especially those that serve Indigenous, Black/African American, Latino, and AAPI communities and low-income communities, furthering the goal of creating a more inclusive democracy. In addition to leading the CCEP, the Deputy Director will be a key member of the organization’s Partnerships team, providing support, strategic thinking, and intentional integration into a number of civic engagement initiatives, including developing and maintaining relationships with key state and national stakeholders.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Will initially supervise interns and likely evolve into supervising full-time team members as the organization grows.
Role Responsibilities:
Manage administration of sub-granting program, including coordination of application, review, and disbursement processes in a time-sensitive manner while aiming to reduce reporting burdens on subgrantees;
Collaborate with CHCs and FQHCs to identify civic engagement opportunities to integrate into their work;
Working closely with State Field Organizers, develop and grow relationships with relevant statewide and national partners that support and engage CHCs and FQHCs (i.e. The National Association of Community Health Centers and primary care associations);
Intentionally ensure that CCEP partners with CHCs and FQHCs that serve Indigenous, Black/African American, Latino, and AAPI communities and low-income communities;
Ensure CCEP is integrated into multiple different areas of Vot-ER’s work, identifying opportunities for cross-collaboration and learning between organization’s focus areas. This may include coaching for other Vot-ER staff to ensure effective cross-organization CHC and FQHC integration;
Develop deep, trusted relationships with CHC and FQHC staff and leadership;
Grow the impact of the existing CCEP to best capture opportunities in odd and even number election years;
Develop and run trainings for funded and unfunded CHC/FQHC partners to participate in civic engagement opportunities, in collaboration with Field Organizing and the Organizing Training Function;
Steward a pipeline of potential future subgrantees;
Create regular newsletter for CHCs/FQHCs on civic engagement efforts, celebrating best practices and anecdotal narratives highlighting involvement opportunities and outcomes; and
Step into other Partnerships’ Team duties and responsibilities as needed. Candidates should note that it is expected that during even-numbered calendar years, there will be a heavier focus on the CCEP whereas in odd-numbered calendar years, there will be greater opportunity for broader Partnership team engagement. This is due to the electoral cycle at the national and state level.
