Overview
INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW:
A communications internship at the ACLU of Arizona provides students with an opportunity to actively work on multi-media communications and public relations projects addressing a wide variety of civil rights and liberties, including immigrants’ rights, LGBTQ rights, First Amendment, reproductive freedom, and criminal justice reform. The communications intern will be supervised by the ACLU of Arizona Communications team. A stipend of $15 an hour is available for those who can make a minimum commitment of 10 hours/ week for 10 weeks.
Applications will be accepted until July 27. Though the ACLU of Arizona office is open, the organization allows for remote work.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITES:
Interns will gain valuable experience by working with the team on a variety of issues. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:
· Track current events pertinent to the organization’s agenda
· Track media coverage of ACLU issues and initiatives
· Draft social media content
· Update the ACLU of Arizona’s Web site
· Produce public education materials by conducting research, drafting outlines, building lists, and supporting the distribution of materials
· Other responsibilities as assigned
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:
The internship is open for journalism, graphic design, digital media, communications, advertising, and/or marketing college students. Interns should possess the following:
· Excellent research, writing and communications skills
· Attention to detail, excellent organization, and time-management skills
· Proficiency with Canva, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Cloud, and website content management systems such as Drupal and WordPress
· Enthusiastic, creative and can work with limited oversight
· Commitment to civil liberties, civil rights, and social justice
· Commitment to the mission of the ACLU of Arizona
