The Opportunity
The Senior Associate will play a critical role in both the strategy and execution of new and existing work across the foundation, with the ultimate goal of improving lives and livelihoods worldwide. The role will report to one of SFF’s managing directors but will work closely with SFF’s executive director, other staff members, and grantee partners. The role combines elements of process development and management, grant management, program strategy and insight, research, and impact measurement. We are looking for someone who is proactive, detail-oriented, highly organized with strong technical skills, eager to learn, and a team player.
Key Priorities and Responsibilities
The Senior Associate will support the programmatic goals and operational requirements, including grantmaking, administrative upkeep and process development, and communications support. Some more specific tasks will include:
- Monitoring and evaluating grantee performance by reviewing and summarizing grantee reports, maintaining positive and professional relationships with grantees, following up with grantees, as needed, to obtain necessary information, and organizing all information for SFF.
- Supporting pipeline development, including researching opportunities and organizations in the areas in which SFF invests or may invest;
- Maintaining and building content expertise in grantmaking areas by staying abreast of current research and data at the national and local levels;
- Updating SFF’s grants management database (AirTable and other internal charts/schedules), generating user-friendly reports and task reminders;
- Following up with fellow team members, as needed, to ensure timely completion of all action items, initiatives, and grants management tasks;
- Preparing grant award letters, agreements, reporting templates, and meeting notes, including checking for thoroughness and consistency of documentation across program areas;
- Developing content for, and helping maintain, SFF’s internal website and other communications, as needed;
- Preparing high-quality, written, and analytical work products in support of grantmaking and other initiatives;
- Assisting in the preparation of meeting materials and presentations;
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience Desired
- A strong “generalist” with the ability to juggle multiple priorities, and adhere to multiple deadlines across workstreams and initiatives (required);
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills (required);
- Proven ability to summarize complex issues clearly and concisely (required);
- Someone with a naturally collaborative demeanor, comfort with a high degree of autonomy, and ability to work as part of a small, cohesive team (required);
- A high degree of personal integrity, sound judgment, tact, and discretion (required);
- Ability to manage multiple complex processes and track activities and outcomes to a successful conclusion (required);
- Expertise in MS Office and Google Workplace (formerly G Suite) including Word/Docs, Excel/Sheets, Gmail, and PowerPoint/Slides (required);
- Excellent analytical ability and portfolio management experience (required);
- Experience with databases, including Air Table (required)
- Solid financial analysis skills (strongly preferred);
- Eight to ten years of professional experience (desired);
- Content knowledge and expertise in one or more of SFF’s program areas (desired);
- Familiarity with nonprofits or philanthropic communities (optional).
Position Details
- Hours: Full-time (40 hours per week), salaried role
- Benefits: Competitive benefits including health, dental, and vision, flexible paid time off, and a professional development budget
- Location: Remote, but must be able to accommodate international time zones, as needed
- Travel: Occasional travel required for team meetings, international site visits, and conferences
- Salary: Anticipated salary range is $75,000 – $110,000, commensurate with experience and location
