The Northwest Abortion Access Fund is an abortion fund serving Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Alaska. Trained, compassionate volunteer advocates run our toll-free hotline. We help people pay for their abortion care by sending funding directly to the clinic. We also help people get to and from the clinic and make sure people traveling for care have a safe place to stay. Position Title: 
Volunteer & Training Coordinator

Location: 
Remote (must live in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, or Washington). Equipment provided as needed.

Purpose: 
The Volunteer & Training Coordinator screens potential NWAAF volunteers and facilitates NWAAF trainings for all volunteer roles. The Volunteer & Training Coordinator will be a skilled trainer for funding hotline and travel coordinator roles, with proficiency in all NWAAF volunteer roles. This role serves as an opportunity to support the development of someone who might be newer to movement work and is committed to strengthening reproductive justice, racial justice, and economic justice across our communities.

Responsibilities:

Volunteer Onboarding & Training (70%)

  • Lead the Volunteer Coordination Circle, which is a small team consisting of Board and volunteer advisors that support volunteer coordination activities.
    Work with the Program Manager and Volunteer Coordination Circle to develop & refine a screening protocol for all NWAAF volunteer positions (this includes funding advocates, travel coordinators, practical support volunteers, program leads, committee volunteers, organizing volunteers, and student interns).
  • Work with the Program Manager and Volunteer Coordination Circle to maintain and refine training curriculums for respective volunteer roles, staying up to date with policy changes and relevant shifts in political & social climate as they occur.
  • Conduct quarterly (at minimum) orientation trainings for new volunteers.
  • Conduct one-on-one role-specific trainings for new funding advocates and travel coordinators, program leads as needed.
  • Conduct quarterly (and as needed) booster trainings for all program volunteers.
  • Conduct role-specific trainings for other types of volunteers (organizing, media, practical support, etc.) as needed.
  • Work with the Program Manager and the Volunteer Coordination Circle to identify ways to integrate anti-racist and reproductive justice content into trainings and volunteer management processes.
  • Work with the Program Manager and Volunteer Coordination Circle  to develop and implement a leadership pipeline to deepen volunteer relationships with NWAAF and increase responsibility, as appropriate.

Support & Provide Direct Service (20%)

  • Act as a hotline advocate: provide compassionate, non-judgemental direct service by phone to callers with complex funding and logistical needs.
  • Provide constructive feedback to volunteers as needed.
  • Cultivate detailed working knowledge of triage for funding abortion.

Volunteer Engagement (10%)

  • Support the Volunteer Coordination Circle in regular volunteer retention activities, including volunteer recognition.
  • Working with the Program Manager and Volunteer Coordination Circle, set and work toward volunteer recruitment goals for funding advocates, travel coordinators, fundraising event volunteers, committee volunteers, and other roles as needed to support NWAAF programs and events.
  • Support Program Manager and Board in coordinating volunteers for annual fundraisers & attend if within geographic area.

 

Desired Attributes:

MUST HAVES:

  • Must live in our regions (Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho)
  • Demonstrated experience providing training and facilitating to adult groups
  • Available to run trainings on evenings and weekends on occasion
  • Comfortable leading interactive trainings via video/phone conference.
  • Comfortable working remotely via online office tools and databases, with training.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Shares NWAAF’s values of: Trust & Respect, Autonomy, Intersectionality, Reproductive Justice, Racial Justice, Economic Justice, and Culture Shift.
  • Proven ability to support and train other people; any experience training others, including in customer service/retail environments, student groups, etc.
  • Committed to reproductive justice.

NICE TO HAVES:

  • Ideally has 2+ years direct experience with abortion fund program support and operations.
  • Experience applying an economic justice and racial justice lens to non-profit work, ideally in a reproductive justice setting.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Working knowledge of intersectionality and the impact that privilege & oppression can have on people’s ability to access abortion.
  • Demonstrated ability to reflect on personal and professional understanding and growth regarding systems of oppression such as racism, sexism, classism etc.
  • Understanding of barriers to abortion access, both logistical and cultural/societal (money, transportation, stigma, social isolation, etc.).
  • Lived experience accessing abortion care.
  • Experience living in community and/or working with marginalized communities (communities of color, Indigenous communities, LGBTQ+ communities, rural communities, working class/poor people, women, trans and femme folks, people with disabilities, etc.).
  • Experience working in a non-profit or receiving services from a non-profit.
  • Comfortable demonstrating compassion to callers and colleagues

Reports To: 
Executive Director (hire pending)

Hours & Time Commitment:

  • Full Time, approx 32 hours per week
  • Orientations and trainings likely to be held in evenings and on weekends
  • Attend weekly (or as needed) meetings with the Volunteer Coordination Circle
  • Attend quarterly meetings with Program Leads team
  • Attend board meetings once per quarter
  • Desired commitment of at least 2 years
  • Coordinate with Program Manager on schedule and dual responsibilities

Support & Training:

  • Will have the opportunity to shadow and train for approximately 3 months.
  • Will have the opportunity to develop professional training and organizational development skill sets.
  • Will be supported by other staff, Program Leads, and NWAAF Board to ensure values alignment throughout screening protocol and training curriculum.
  • The Volunteer & Training Coordinator will have an opportunity to attend NNAF Summit and potentially other leadership and management trainings/conferences (with expenses paid, as approved by the board).
  • This role will require access to a reliable smartphone, computer, and internet access. NWAAF can provide tech infrastructure as needed.

Salary & Benefits:

  • Salary Range: $80k-96k
  • 32 hours per week, Flexible Schedule
  • Paid holidays (part-time employees receive 4 hours’ worth of pay on paid holidays)
  • Paid vacation (for new hires, paid vacation accrues at the rate of 1.25 days per month, or 15 days of paid vacation per year. For full-time employees who have completed two full years of employment, paid vacation at the rate of 1.5 days per month, or 18 days of paid vacation per year)
  • $400 monthly health insurance stipend
  • Wellness Stipend – $100
  • Remote Work Stipend – $115
  • Mental Health Stipend – $300
  • 3% match for 401k
  • Yearly Bonus, amount determined by the Board
