The Sunrise Project: Media/Communications Campaigner needed on contract basis

The Sunrise Project US seeks a communications contractor to assist on our Financial Regulation Program, with a remit that covers the United States. We are looking for a seasoned, campaign-oriented media professional to develop and execute communications strategy within a coalition pushing for an ambitious regulatory environment that responds to the urgency of climate risk and sets a path toward a just transition.

Timeline for the Contract:
The contract will run to the end of December 2023 with the likelihood of extension. Contractor must be able to start immediately.

Reports to:
Managing Director, Financial Regulation

Key Responsibilities:
Develop & execute a nimble and adaptive media plan in collaboration with network partners
Build relationships with key reporters and outlets to provide background & move stories as necessary; potentially work with state-based allies to move stories to key outlets
Build and maintain media lists across various issue areas
Write and place strategic op-eds in state outlets with key validators; write and/or edit key campaign output, including coalition letters and comments
Assist in developing/adapting message guidance for select audiences
Assist in developing and executing a paid and digital strategy with partners

Must Haves:
Experience and proven success working in and placing stories and opinion pieces in a fast-moving campaign environment
Strong understanding of issues and terminology related to financial markets, climate change and fossil fuels, racial and economic justice, and labor/worker issues
Experience running media campaigns in support of national level policy, advocacy, or electoral objectives
Good to Haves:
Experience working in complex, issue-diverse progressive coalitions
Press, digital, legislative, and/or advocacy contacts

Compensation:
Exact payment terms will be agreed on with the consultant. We expect the work to average 50%-75% capacity and the contract will be capped at $35,000.
