Summary:

Charlie’s Place, a program of St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, seeks a dynamic and passionate Director of Development to join our team. The Director of Development will play a pivotal role in advancing the mission of Charlie’s Place by spearheading fundraising efforts to support our programs aimed at empowering individuals experiencing homelessness. Additionally, this role will encompass volunteer management and stakeholder communications. The ideal candidate will be dedicated to our progressive and inclusive values while demonstrating a proven track record in individual giving, grant writing, volunteer coordination, and stakeholder engagement.

About Charlie’s Place:

Charlie’s Place is a beacon of hope within our community, providing a safe and welcoming environment where individuals experiencing homelessness can find respite, resources, and opportunities for personal growth. Our program, established in 1990 as a nondenominational homeless ministry of St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, has evolved to offer a range of services that address the holistic needs of our neighbors in need. Our breakfast meal program, held Tuesdays through Saturdays, serves as the heart of our efforts, fostering connections and providing nourishment for both the body and the spirit.

Responsibilities:

Fundraising

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy to raise $250,000 annually for Charlie’s Place through individual giving and grant writing.
  • Cultivate and steward relationships with individual donors, supporters, and grantmaking organizations aligned with Charlie’s Place mission and values.
  • Identify and research potential funding opportunities, both at the local and national levels, to diversify funding sources.
  • Prepare compelling grant proposals and applications, ensuring alignment with funders’ priorities and requirements.
  • Collaborate with program staff to gather accurate and compelling data, stories, and impact metrics for use in fundraising materials.
  • Plan and execute fundraising campaigns, events, and initiatives that engage and inspire donors and supporters.
  • Use digital platforms and social media to enhance visibility and engagement with potential donors and the broader community.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of donor interactions, contributions, and grant submissions using relevant databases.
  • Stay informed about trends in nonprofit fundraising, homelessness advocacy, and social justice issues to inform strategic decisions.
  • Represent Charlie’s Place and St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church at relevant community events and networking opportunities.

Volunteer Management

  • Assist the Program Director in recruiting, training, and managing volunteers to support the various programs and initiatives at Charlie’s Place.
  • Coordinate volunteer schedules and assignments (mostly using SignUp Genius), ensuring adequate coverage for program activities.
  • Help foster a sense of community and engagement among volunteers, recognizing their contributions and providing opportunities for growth.
  • Collaborate with program staff to integrate volunteers into program activities, promoting synergy between paid staff and volunteers.

Stakeholder Communications

  • Develop and implement a strategic communications plan to engage stakeholders, including donors, volunteers, program participants, St. Margaret’s parishioners, and the broader neighborhood community.
  • Create and disseminate regular communications materials, including newsletters, impact reports, and social media content, to keep stakeholders informed and engaged.
  • Maintain a strong online presence, utilizing the organization’s website (managed on Wix) and social media channels to share stories, updates, and advocacy efforts.
  • Collaborate with program staff to gather and highlight success stories and testimonials that demonstrate the positive outcomes of our programs.

Qualifications:

  • Strong commitment to progressive and inclusive values, aligned with the mission of Charlie’s Place and St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church.
  • Proven experience in nonprofit fundraising, volunteer management, stakeholder communications, individual giving, and grant writing.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to craft compelling narratives for diverse audiences.
  • Ability to build and maintain meaningful relationships with donors, supporters, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Proficiency in using fundraising software, databases, and digital platforms for donor engagement.
  • Knowledge of homelessness issues, social services, and advocacy is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in nonprofit management, fundraising, communications, or related field.
