Overview

The Climate Jobs National Resource Center (CJNRC) is a labor-led organization at the forefront of the fight to combat the climate crisis and reverse racial and economic inequality.

CJNRC is the hub of a growing network of union-led, state-based climate jobs coalitions, providing unions with the information, support, and expertise to lead on climate action. The coalitions we support are organizing to build a clean energy economy at the scale and pace that climate science demands, create and expand access to good union jobs in under-resourced communities, and advance equity.

CJNRC and our network of coalitions are at the leading edge of both workers’ rights and climate action, two defining issues of our time. The coalitions have helped pass the nation’s most ambitious climate policies, won the strongest labor and equity standards for clean energy workers in the country, and built winning campaigns for worker-centered and equity-focused climate investments and good union jobs that will transform the future of the US economy.

To advance this crucial work, CJNRC is seeking a Wisconsin-based organizer to drive our efforts in Wisconsin to educate the public about the full potential of the historic federal climate investments enacted in recent years, including most recently the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). These historic legislative achievements could support over $3 trillion of new investment. These investments can support good union jobs and expand inclusive opportunity while building the new renewable energy infrastructure and creating the momentum to go further and do more.

This position is based in the State of Wisconsin, requires in-person work, and reports to CJNRC’s Wisconsin State Director.  The Wisconsin Lead Organizer will work closely with CJNRC’s staff and with state partners and allied organizations. The successful candidate is an experienced and visionary campaigner with a deep commitment to building the labor movement and fighting the climate crisis who can take initiative and work in highly collaborative environments.

The Wisconsin Lead Organizer is a full time, one-year term position.  Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • The Lead Organizer will focus on identifying, researching, and tracking priority clean energy projects in Wisconsin and building a comprehensive body of field-based data on those projects.
  • The position will work with Wisconsin unions to assess the projects, and to gain access to the projects and members working on the projects for purposes of exploring potential communications about  the creation of high quality union jobs in clean energy industries that deliver tangible, economic and human impacts.
  • The Lead Organizer will work with Wisconsin unions to identify “stuck” union IRA-supported projects and organize in support of getting the projects moving, through successful local siting, zoning, permitting, and other policy, regulatory, and/or public opinion fights.
  • Depending on the need, responsibilities may include organizing affiliates and allies to drive support for projects, catalyzing campaign activity on employers and channeling technical support from unions, CJNRC, and other national allies.
  • The Organizer will work with the supervisor to develop, assess, and recommend additional campaign, advocacy and public education initiatives as appropriate.

Working conditions:

This is a full-time position based in Wisconsin, and it requires extensive in-person work. Long hours will be required on occasion. The position will require travel. CJNRC follows public health guidance related to the Covid-19 pandemic.
