Reports to: Program Manager
Expected Salary Range: $35,000- $45,000, DOE
Location: Preference is for primarily remote candidates near West Central Illinois or Southern Wisconsin. Qualified candidates will also be considered in RSC’s Regional Hub partner locations.
Travel: This role may include up to 25% travel

Launched in 2015, the Rural Schools Collaborative (RSC) is emerging as a national leader in supporting rural school communities via a growing network of advocates. We believe a healthy American future must include a thriving rural landscape, and that schools are at the forefront of this effort. Our work is supported by a volunteer Board of Directors, a small staff, and rural partners in the Regional Hub Network, serving 30+ states. Regional Hubs are essential to RSC’s work, and it is through these strong partnerships that RSC conducts its key initiatives: Grants in Place, Rural Teacher Corps, I Am A Rural Teacher, and Impact Philanthropy. RSC takes a collaborative, place-responsive, and asset-based approach to all of our work.

Position Description:
This role will collaboratively support RSC programs, communications, and digital storytelling. This includes positively representing RSC through interactions with staff and board, donors, grant recipients, partners, and the general public. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, and have a passion for education advocacy.

This position will serve as the lead for social media and will support programs like the Rural Teacher Corps initiative, Regional Hubs, GRAD Partnership, and the I Am A Rural Teacher Project. This role generates digital content representative of the organization, communicates with partners, and serves as a positive ambassador for rural schools and communities.

 

Day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Strategic communications and written features that celebrate rural places, teachers, and communities, and social media posts
  • Plan and implement iterative communications strategies
  • Generate and monitor RSC’s social media and online presence; share reports with staff
  • Assess and report on the effectiveness of communication strategies
  • Develop work plans, agendas, and reporting on deliverables and timelines for programs
  • Support colleagues on collaborative projects
  • Assist with development, including grant-writing, reporting, and research as needed
  • Building positive relationships with and among RSC’s community partners

Preferred Experience:

  • Professional experience in nonprofits, education (k12 and/or higher ed), philanthropy, advocacy, and/or community development
  • Experience with, or excitement to learn, the following systems is a plus: Google Suite (Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Meets), Adobe Acrobat, Slack, Website CMS, Donor Management Softwares (ex. GiveButter), Mailchimp, Canva, social media scheduling platforms, Zoom
  • Understanding of place-based education and public schools
  • Experience and interest in rural and small town contexts
