Job Posting: Development Manager
Salary Range: $70,000 – $85,000 per year
Work Hours: Full-time exempt, funded for two years, with an expectation of permanent funding
Informed California Foundation, a small-but-mighty nonprofit that produces and supports impactful, responsive, local accountability journalism in communities across the state, is seeking an experienced, enthusiastic and well-organized professional to join our organization as the development manager. The manager will report to the organization’s chief executive officer and will work alongside a growing team of reporters, administrators, and program executives dedicated to producing high-quality public service journalism such as that of our award-winning investigative newsroom, Open Vallejo.
The successful candidate will play a critical role in growing our capacity for change-making reporting by building excellent relationships with major donors, foundations and other grantors. The manager will be responsible for maintaining our development database, tracking and reporting our progress, and assisting with projection of annual revenue, as well as helping document and communicate the impact of our reporting.
The ideal candidate is required to have a strong track record in fundraising and development. We’re looking for someone mission-driven and creative who wishes to grow with our organization — a problem solver who wants to be part of a fun, highly effective and supportive team. Adaptability, communication and the ability to work in a highly confidential environment are also required.
This is a full-time position funded in part by a two-year grant from LION Publishers, an association for independent news publishers, and funded by the Facebook Journalism Project. The development manager will also be required to participate in a training program hosted by LION Publishers’ News Revenue Fellowship, attend regular coaching sessions over the two-year Fellowship period, and prepare occasional progress reports.

Key results expected of this position:
Develop and maintain relationships with both current donors and potential funders
Develop and maintain a donor communications strategy
Manage the organization’s donor development database
Assist with revenue planning and projection to support fiscal stability and growth
Document and communicate Informed California and Open Vallejo impact
Participate in a training and coaching program hosted by LION Publishers’ News Revenue Fellowship, and produce occasional progress reports
