Overview

We seek a community organizer to support, strengthen and grow FACS’ stakeholders, including its faith community network, partners, and advocacy teams. This position will report to the Executive Director.

Responsibilities: 

Community Outreach and Engagement

  • Recruit new members to join FACS through meetings with faith communities, speaking engagements, tabling, and other community events
  • Diversify FACS membership by proactively recruiting underrepresented populations
  • Deepen relationships with faith communities through sustainability campaigns
  • Partner with local organizations with compatible goals for climate solutions
  • Manage online webinars and in-person events
  • Maintain customer relationship management system
  • Support FACS hubs in multiple counties and cities in Northern Virginia

Communications

  • Manage FACS social media channels
  • Manage creation of monthly web-based newsletter
  • Write action alerts and other email communications
  • Develop marketing materials, handouts, and other written documents
  • Other duties as assigned; FACS is a small nonprofit organization

Qualifications: 

  • Knowledge of climate change issues and solutions
  • Community organizing experience in the political, nonprofit, or religious fields
  • Ability to communicate with members of diverse interfaith and secular communities
  • Strong speaking and writing skills
  • Adept at managing social media channels on a day-to-day basis
  • Knowledge of digital content management systems
  • Familiarity with membership database systems
  • Flexibility and demonstrable track record of managing multiple, simultaneous priorities
  • Self starter; must be able to produce consistent, quality work in a fast-paced environment
  • Commitment to advancing economic, racial, and gender justice
  • Willingness and ability to travel throughout Northern Virginia; mileage will be reimbursed
  • Flexible schedule; working some evenings and weekends is mandatory

Commitment:

40 hours per week.
