Overview

Network for Good is hiring 3 summer interns: Nonprofit Research Specialist, Nonprofit Grants Data Analyst, and Strategic Inititiatives Analyst

Internship Program Design:
Our goal with our internship program is to provide a true hands-on experience. Interns are exposed to the operations of our business, will assist with special projects, and will participate in a variety of assignments and tasks aimed at fulfilling the internship program objectives. Each intern will be assigned a mentor to be their guide throughout the duration of the program and will be given real work projects and workstreams. In addition, you will have the opportunity to sit in on meetings and present your work at key milestone stages throughout your projects. This is a temporary, remote role. We are open to both full- and part-time intern candidates, dependent on experience. The internship program will run for 10-12 weeks, with start and end date flexible per varying academic calendars. We will consider both undergraduate and graduate candidates for each of these positions, with plans to adjust the specific duties and hourly compensation based on experience. We’ll begin reviewing applications immediately, but will accept applications on a rolling basis. Applications received before May 8th will be given priority review.

NONPROFIT RESEARCH SPECIALIST INTERN

You will be responsible for helping us build the data set that will be used for automated decision-making in instances of “Exceptions” (where we cannot deliver money to an intended nonprofit due to legal or logistical reasons). You will play a critical role in ensuring that money is successfully granted to eligible charities by helping identify potential “look-alike” alternative grantees by researching nonprofits and their mission.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and research US-based nonprofits, using multiple data sources and business requirements.
  • Identify when more information/research is required.
  • Diligently track cases and manage a queue of requests with detailed documentation.
  • Make recommendations for process improvements such as using innovative new technology like GPT, etc.

Requirements

  • Passionate about using your skill set for good causes
  • Detail-oriented (expected to raise questions if something looks off or is unclear)
  • Effective communicator (written and verbal)
  • Reliable (can be trusted with sensitive data and strict deadlines)
  • Organized (manages assigned tasks and completes them according to priorities)
  • Flexible (willingness to adapt to changes)

NONPROFIT GRANTS DATA ANALYST INTERN

You will support the development of business intelligence to help NFG understand how historical donations through our platform have supported social issues over time, and make suggestions for how those insights might inform future strategic initiatives. You will analyze NFG’s historical data, with a particular focus on understanding spikes in giving around climate-driven disasters and other moments that mobilized increased giving through our platform. In addition to extracting meaningful insights from our data set, you’ll conduct external desk research to provide additional context and a narrative overlay to what you discover in our data. For example, we may choose to dive deep into donations processed in relation to Hurricane Harvey in Houston in 2017, to understand the role that NFG played in financing relief and recovery for that disaster.

Responsibilities

  • Pull and analyze Network for Good’s historical data to pull meaningful insights
  • Understand NFG’s data over time and present notable trends and patterns you observe
  • Conduct desk research and write narrative overlays to help tell the story of NFG’s historical role in processing and disbursing philanthropic donations

  • Experience creating data visualizations
  • Able to manipulate data using SQL and Excel

You will be responsible for helping to advance Network for Good’s future strategic vision. You’ll dig into research to help us understand the ecosystem of disaster preparedness and long-term recovery, as well as innovative financing models and sustainable outcomes in the social sector. You’ll support project coordination for a couple of pilot projects (still TBD) with external partners. See this strategic vision summary for more context on the work you will support.

Responsibilities

  • Provide project coordination for pilot projects with external partners to test NFG’s hypotheses for where we can add value in the social sector
  • Conduct ad hoc desk research (on topics including innovative financing models, sustainable outcomes, disaster recovery) and synthesize themes, needs, opportunities
