Rethink Priorities is rapidly growing, and we’re looking for a new team member to help ensure our open, friendly, and collaborative culture scales with the organization.

About the role
This role is fully remote and we’re able to legally hire from most countries, however we prefer applicants who are open to work during North, Central and South American Time Zones, as well as African and European Time Zones (UTC-8 to UTC+1 preferred). This position is full-time, and reports to the People and Culture Manager. The salary for this position is between $79,000 and $81,000 USD annually.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinating and hosting staff events and meetings, including internal presentations, staff socials, and other events.
  • Contributing to day-to-day tasks, like fostering relationships with staff, checking in with new staff, learning about and addressing workplace issues, evaluating gaps in benefits, and providing suggestions for improvement.
  • Contributing to the People & Culture (P&C) agenda — brainstorming about potential culture initiatives and helping with their execution, conducting research about various P&C practices at other organizations, and helping with the implementation of new initiatives.
  • Supporting the onboarding and offboarding processes for new and departing staff, respectively.
    Working collaboratively with the Communications Coordinator to help highlight RP staff externally and help identify interesting opportunities to promote our work externally.
  • Assisting in developing and overseeing our internship and fellowship programs.
  • Researching and implementing compliant and equitable benefits programs across borders.

Your experience
Essential:

  • 1-2 years of experience,formal training, or strong interest in nonprofit human resources, or a similar role.
  • 1-2 years of experience supporting people and culture work, including onboarding/offboarding, cultural and engagement activities, employment compliance, and beyond.
  • Interest in developing and promoting a healthy and equitable team culture for an Effective Altruism aligned research organization.

Desired:

  • Experience with employment compliance and benefits administration, especially for international employers.
  • Experience with benefits administration in one of the following countries: the UK, Canada, Australia, or Germany, or other big countries.
  • Experience researching and communicating about benefits to employees.
  • Experience developing budgets for programs and organizational initiatives.
  • Experience organizing events and initiatives to support and improve team culture at a remote organization.
  • Familiarity with Effective Altruism and Rethink Priorities’ work.

Your skills

  • Fluent in multiple languages (English, and at least one of: Spanish, German, Dutch, or another language commonly spoken in Europe).

About Rethink Priorities

Rethink Priorities is a research organization aimed at uncovering insights to inform policymakers and major foundations about how to best set policy to help people and nonhuman animals.

Since the beginning of 2018, we’ve:

  • Studied alternatives to QALYs for measuring wellbeing
  • Published reviews of lead reduction policy, charter cities, and agricultural land reform
  • Conducted polls, surveys, and message testing to better understand how the public thinks about animal welfare and other important topics
  • Brought to light the important and neglected area of invertebrate welfare
  • Investigated nuclear war as a possible existential risk, quantitatively modelled the expected harm from various nuclear war scenarios, and explored some interventions for reducing this risk
