Job Title: Deputy Director
Location: This position is remote, with a preference for candidates located in cities with a large Haitian diaspora population, like NYC, Boston, Chicago, Miami, etc., and includes occasional travel to board retreats, donor events, presentations, conferences, and Haiti.
Reports To: Executive Director (ED)
About Us: Using music as a tool for social change, BLUME Haiti (Building Leaders Using Music Education in Haiti) empowers Haitians to strengthen their communities through the unifying and transformative power of music education. We work locally to sustain music programs that foster artistic excellence, personal growth, leadership potential, community development, and cultural exchange. Founded in 2012, BLUME Haiti partners with over 60 music programs across Haiti. Co-founder Janet Anthony, who began teaching in Haiti 29 years ago, serves as Executive Director and currently leads a team of four Haitian program staff.
Position Overview: BLUME Haiti seeks a dynamic, disciplined, and driven Deputy Director to support sustainability and efficiency through responsive fundraising and patron service, vibrant marketing and communications, operational excellence, financial due diligence, and reliable project management. This individual will work closely with the ED and Board to advance growth and impact. As the organization’s first US-based hire and the first holder of this role, they will help shape the position. The ideal candidate is highly motivated, entrepreneurial, results- oriented, collaborative, communicative, and passionate about BLUME Haiti’s mission, with a track record of success and leadership in an arts, non-profit, or educational environment.
Key Responsibilities
Fundraising: Partner with ED in developing and implementing fundraising campaigns to meet development goals, and manage and collaborate with the administrative services firm ArtOps to ensure the integrity of development operations via:
Direct Fundraising: Lead and manage the full lifecycle of annual fund initiatives and appeals for broad-based donors, including strategy development, content creation, execution, and analysis across mail, email, and social media platforms.
Donor Relations: Manage database, oversee ArtOps’ execution of prompt and personalized acknowledgements, respond to inquiries, and support stewardship.
Reporting: Track and report on fundraising metrics and campaign effectiveness, and prepare reports for funders and internal stakeholders.
Grant Management: Partner with ED in editing grant proposals, preparing documentation and reporting for new proposals, and stewarding received grants.
Marketing & Communications: Advance awareness among key constituencies and deepen engagement with current and future donors, volunteers, partners, and advocates by designing and executing memorable marketing and communications across direct mail, email, website, print materials, social media, PR, and earned media channels.
Operational Systems & Processes: Review, recommend, develop, implement, and assess systems, processes, and digital tools to optimize organizational performance, with a focus on maturing fundraising, marketing, and program delivery systems, including working with Program Manager to improve documentation of BLUME Haiti’s financial and in-kind grants to music programs to strengthen tracking and accountability.
Board Support: Support Board operations by assisting the Board Chair and Committee Chairs with communication, scheduling, agendas and minutes, and meeting prep and execution for plenary and committees.
Project Leadership and Coordination: Manage projects identified by ED and Board, develop plans with clear objectives, timelines, and resource requirements; monitor progress and address challenges to ensure timely project completion; and collaborate internally and externally to ensure prompt communication and meet deliverables.
Strategic Support: Provide key support to the Executive Director in the development and implementation of the organization’s strategic priorities via:
Analysis of organizational performance data to inform strategic decisions
Research of industry trends and best practices to enhance program effectiveness
Qualifications
Required
2-5 years of leadership and progressive experience in arts, music, nonprofit, or educational administration, including experience in fundraising.
Ability to work independently, efficiently, and collaboratively in a remote setting.
Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks concurrently.
Confident written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred
Bachelor’s degree or related education.
Proficiency in French or Haitian Creole is highly desirable.
Experience working cross-culturally, including Haitian or Caribbean communities.
Proficiency with fundraising databases, CRM systems, and digital marketing platforms.
Proficiency in graphic design (e.g., Canva, Photoshop, Publisher) and email platforms.
Background as a musician or music educator.

Compensation & Benefits:
Salary range of $55,000 – $65,000 gross per year, commensurate with experience.
Monthly stipend of $1,000 to be used at the employee’s discretion for health insurance, dental insurance, retirement contributions, etc., for themselves and/or any dependents.
PTO starting at 20 days annually, and a flexible, remote work environment.
