About Changing the Conversation for Progress

Do you feel like the world is on fire? Do you want to help put out the flames? Are you a good storyteller, community builder, creative thinker, social entrepreneur, or do you aspire to learn how to be any of the above? If so, you may be the right candidate to work for Changing the Conversation — an organization that is uniquely positioned in this moment of profound importance!

Our country and our world are at a critical turning point. This fall, US voters will face a stark choice: stand up for democracy or stay home and let autocratic thuggish rule continue its ascent. A few states will tip the balance. Pennsylvania is one of them. Pennsylvania is also a state where you have two of the most atrocious statewide candidates this cycle – for Governor and US Senator. The margin of victory in both these elections are expected to be close!  By joining us, and bringing your all, you can help change the course of the election, our country and our world!

Changing the Conversation Together (CTC) is built on a Deep Canvassing model, to grow an electorate that embraces compassion and inclusion. We helped flip Staten Island in 2018, Pennsylvania in 2020, and Georgia in 2021. Our campaigns have been featured in the NY Times, The Nation, WNYC, The American Prospect, NowThisNews, Politics Is For Power, The Philadelphia Citizen and Philly’s WURD Radio.

What is Deep Canvassing? Deep canvassing is a method of patiently inviting unlikely voters over to support your cause. It’s a form of conversation that builds trust through empathetic listening, deep mutual respect and connecting emotionally. Through the telling and eliciting of stories, we help voters connect their values with participating in democracy.

Deep Canvassing Works! Randomized control trials have shown deep canvassing to be the most effective form of voter persuasion that’s ever been measured. Deep canvassers, and those who study their work, have shown their conversations to be effectively persuasive around race, marriage equality, anti transgender bias, immigration, women’s rights and more.

CTC’s Deep Canvassing connects with unlikely voters in marginalized communities of Philadelphia in a way that no one else does. In 2020, those Philadelphians with no history of voting who spoke with CTC canvassers were nearly 30% more likely to vote than their neighbors. Read our report “Evaluating Impact 2020” here.

This isn’t just an organization, it’s a community. Our conversations are not only  transformative interactions for voters, they can be transformative for our canvassers as well. Indeed, we’ve built a community of trained volunteers dedicated to learning, disseminating and expanding this work. We’re a community of dedicated volunteers and staff with an entrepreneurial spirit and a dynamic drive.

Organizational Culture: We strive for results, accountability and excellence and we seek out opportunities for professional development. We are committed to doing the work and challenging each other to achieve levels of excellence. We strive to be an organization in which everyone is respected, heard as well.

It’s not just a campaign job, it’s a career. This is an opportunity for a meaningful sustainable career with opportunities for learning and growth. It includes full medical, dental, vision, cell phone reimbursement, retirement benefits and paid vacation.

Training. The training that people receive is the gold standard. Organizers will learn the art and science of organizing. They will be given a chance to learn, grow, evaluate and expand their skill set. For people who believe in building people-power and building movements, for people who want to be part of this pivotal moment and want to turn things around — this is the place to be.
