Overview

As a member of the People & Operations team, the People & Operations Director will help build, develop, and retain a diverse, engaged, and high-functioning staff. Reporting directly to the Managing Director of People & Operations, the People & Operations (POps) Director will play a critical role ensuring staff and corps have the necessary tools, resources, and support to drive student impact and operational excellence. Managing the Senior Manager of Corps Operations, they will be responsible for overseeing site & corps operations to optimize, integrate, and align people processes with department and site wide initiatives. The POps Director serves on the site leadership team, supports in the development and execution of site people & operations strategies working collaboratively across all departments at the site.

Responsibilities

People & Operations Strategy:

  • Support Managing Director with site advancement planning and execution of People & Ops priorities
  • Support site CultureAmp engagement data review and action planning in partnership with Site Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to improve staff experience
  • Support developing multi-year workforce planning to ensure CYLA has a high performing staff
  • Collaborate with the People & Ops team to forward plan for operational, logistical and physical office needs of the corps and staff

Manage Site Human Resources: In partnership with the Managing Director of People & Ops define and implement a strategy to recruit, select, retain, and develop staff to grow an outstanding high performing team.

  • Recruit and hire highly qualified diverse staff workforce, leading on manager, sr. manager, and director level searches
  • Coordinate staff onboarding and exiting processes ensuring all staff are set up for success
  • Coordinate with HQ to ensure compliance with all CY & federal employment guidelines
  • Manage site staff learning & development to continuously grow staff skills to succeed and advance
  • Provide aligned site wide performance management training and support
  • Serve as a site liaison for staff benefits and organizational resources
  • In partnership with Managing Director, support employee relations and site risk management process (performance improvement plans, terminations, employee safety, health & security)

Diversity, Belonging, Inclusion, and Equity (DBIE): Support building equitable and inclusive culture where people with diverse lived experiences feel like they belong

  • Support execution of site DBIE strategy including identifying partners for on-going trainings
  • Support Site Equity Council and Affinity Group planning and execution
  • Plan events and activities to celebrate and appreciate staff members, including holiday gatherings, celebrations, and seasonal initiatives

Manage Site Health & Safety: In partnership with the Managing Director of People & Ops and SLT plan, implement, and adapt site operations and people supports for site health & safety

  • Partner with Managing Director to develop and execute health and safety plans in the workplace according to legal guidelines and requirements
  • Serve as primary point with external COVID contact tracer vendor, including leading on internal COVID communication in partnership with site leadership
  • Prepare and enforce policies to establish a culture of health and safety
  • Conduct training and presentations for health and safety matters
  • Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities, or new prevention measures

Oversee Site & Corps Operations: Ensure that all site systems, processes, resources and vendor relationships are managed effectively to best support the work of the CYLA site. 

  • Oversee staff and corps operational systems, policies and procedures
  • Manage site content management system to ensure effective collaboration and information sharing
  • Oversee building and vendor management
  • Co-lead corps onboarding cross departmental committee corps member onboarding planning and execution
  • Monitor & ensure all required employment verification are completed on time for AmeriCorps Members to start service
  • Support the Managing Director of People & Ops and Managing Director of Impact in reviewing, approving, and unlocking additional allowed absences based on CY policy and hours requirements.
  • Support AmeriCorps Member Experience team with offboarding AmeriCorps Members.
  • Support with administration of Compelling Personal Circumstances Leaves/Pauses. 
  • Lead special projects and change management initiatives including system and equipment upgrades 

Staff Management & Site Leadership: Serve as an intentional leader and people manager that advances site goals with and through others by diligent daily practice and long-term vision.

  • Manage and develop the Sr. Manager of Corps Operations, including performance management, weekly one-on-one meetings, mid-year and end-of-year reviews
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with direct report and teammates by creating an environment of open and honest two-way communication
  • Provide both positive and constructive feedback and coaching to support direct report development
  • As a member of the Leadership team provide functional expertise and collaborate to make decisions that support execution of team, department, and site vision
  • Partner with all City Year Los Angeles departments through site events, projects, and cross-departmental committees as needed to ensure site-wide goals are met

  • 5-10 years of work experience.
