Opportunity
We are looking for a savvy Data Engineer to join our growing team of analytics experts. The successful candidate will be responsible for expanding and optimizing our data and data pipeline architecture, as well as optimizing data flow and collection for cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate is an experienced data pipeline builder and data wrangler who enjoys optimizing data systems and building them from the ground up.

The Data Engineer will support our software developers, database architects, data analysts and data scientists on data initiatives and will ensure optimal data delivery architecture is consistent throughout ongoing projects. They must be self-directed and comfortable supporting the data needs of multiple teams, systems and products. The right candidate will be excited by the prospect of optimizing and or even re-designing our company’s data architecture to support our next generation of products and data initiatives.

Position Summary
The Data Engineer brings an agile, solutions-oriented mindset to the primary responsibility of maintaining, extending and optimizing HMI’s data infrastructure. As a member of the Technology team, the Data Engineer works closely with the Senior Director of Technology, other Technology team members, and the Research and Measures team to ensure data is readily available in a format that meets the needs of a variety of users and contributes to HMI’s success in serving its mission.

Healthy Minds Innovations is located in Madison, WI. Both local and remote applicants are welcome. This is a full-time position.

Responsibilities
In this role, responsibilities include:

Proactively supporting and encouraging the expansion of diversity among all components of the organization
Maintaining, evaluating and optimizing data pipeline infrastructure and transformations in AWS cloud environment
Ensuring data integrity and validity for large, complex data sets
Identifying, designing, and implementing automation for increased scalability in data transformations and analysis
Participating in the selection and implementation of analytics tools to provide actionable insights into customer acquisition, operational efficiency and other key business performance metrics
Creating data tools for analytics and data scientist team members that assist them in building and optimizing our product into an innovative industry leader
Working with stakeholders including the Executive, Product, Data and Design teams to deliver data as needed for new projects, assist with data-related technical issues and support the organization’s overall data infrastructure needs
Keeping our data separated and secure across national boundaries through multiple data centers and AWS regions
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
The successful individual in this role will ideally have:

Strong problem solving and analytical skills
Ability to collaborate effectively with other data stakeholders
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Experience with AWS Data services: RDS, DynamoDb, Glue, Kinesis, Athena, Redshift, QuickSight, S3 (Data Lake)
Skilled in SQL, NoSQL, and GraphQL data query languages
Experience ETL methodologies and tools, primarily AWS Glue
Infrastructure-as-code tools, primarily Terraform
Experience with data science programming languages, especially Python, R

Qualifications

In addition, the successful candidate must:

Have 3+ years of experience as an AWS data architect or data engineer
Pass a background check
Be able to work in the US without requiring sponsorship
Live in the greater Madison, Wisconsin area or be able to function successfully in a fully remote capacity
While not required, we especially encourage applications from people who:

Have familiarity with AWS Serverless services
Have experience with AI/ML, especially AWS Sagemaker
Have devops experience automating code deployments
Have AWS Data and/or Devops Certifications
Reports to: Senior Director of Technology
