Overview

The IT Systems Support Specialist has primary responsibility for ensuring the reliability and performance of CHP’s IT infrastructure. This includes maintaining all IT solutions across the company, including, but not limited to, networks, servers, workstations, hardware, software, email, databases, internet access, web sites, and telecommunications. The IT Systems Support Specialist has secondary responsibility for remediating security vulnerabilities found in CHP’s IT infrastructure. This individual also participates in the planning and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure system provisioning and maintenance that is consistent with company goals, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

·         Administer and maintain/upgrade LANs, VPNs, and other IT networking infrastructure

·         Support, monitor, test, and troubleshoot hardware and software problems pertaining to LANs, WANs, VPNs, VOIP, smartphones, workstations, servers, and other IT infrastructure

·         Install new software releases, perform system upgrades, evaluate and install patches, and resolve software and OS-related problems

·         Monitor and maintain data backups and schedules to ensure data recovery

·         Maintain data sources and monitor system configuration to ensure data availability and data integrity

·         Provide user support as required, responding to user inquiries and troubleshooting needs through trouble-ticket system

·         Accomplish duties within a budget and recommend hardware and software as part of the budgeting process

·         Automate hardware and software deployment throughout CHP

·         Perform periodic preventive maintenance on computer systems

·         Deploy security fixes and mitigations for servers and other hardware once vulnerabilities are identified

·         Participate as an active member in the formulation of policies and procedures related to information management

·         Provide occasional on-site administration at satellite offices as needed

·         Collaborate with IT support team, IT development team, and Business Analyst on departmental projects as needed

·         Proactively communicate infrastructure-related problems and offer solutions to Assistant Vice President of IT

·         Perform related duties as assigned by the Assistant Vice President of IT or Executive Staff

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

·         Ability to interface with end users to provide excellent, accessible, and relevant customer service to all CHP employees

·         Knowledge of technology sufficient to manage and resolve network and other IT issues including: cable management; hubs, routers, switches, and firewalls; network printing and printer support; data backup and recovery; and monitor system configuration to ensure security and malware protection

·         Ability to diagnose and fix hardware and software problems

·         Initiative and willingness to obtain training to develop skills and abilities to meet evolving technology environments, frameworks, platforms, and applications

·         Ability to provide support for MS Active Directory including Windows domain group policies and administration

·         Knowledge of PowerShell

·         Knowledge of cloud environments such as AWS and Azure

·         Knowledge of networking, server, application, and database security best practices and standards

·         Knowledge of Microsoft IIS and Apache Tomcat

·         Excellent judgment and ability to handle sensitive or confidential information

·         Ability to work independently, solve problems, and adapt to changes in structure and work priorities

·         Excellent written and verbal communication skills

·         Ability to collaborate with others

·         Ability to gather data accurately and quickly, compile information, keep accurate records, and prepare reports

·         Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet and manage multiple deadlines

·         Current driver’s license and record consistent with CHP insurability requirements

Education and/or Experience

·         Associates degree or equivalent 2 years professional experience in Information Systems/Business Technology/Computer Science or related field required

·         CCNA preferred

·         MCSA Windows Server 2016 preferred

·         Azure Administrator Associate preferred

·         CompTIA Security+ preferred

·         One or more years of experience in customer service preferred

Customary hours are 8:00am – 5:00pm with a 1-hour break for lunch; nature of duties may require occasional travel and evening and weekend hours as workload dictates. This position may work up to 5 days a week remote with prior supervisor approval, but must be available to meet and/or work in-person when the situation or work load demands it.
