ABOUT RECOVERY CAFÉ AND RECOVERY CAFÉ NETWORK

Our Mission: We are a community of individuals who have been traumatized by homelessness, addiction and other mental health challenges coming to know we are loved and that we have gifts to share.

Recovery Café was founded on the truth that every human being is precious and beloved regardless of past trauma, mental and emotional anguish, addictive behaviors or mistakes made. We provide a beautiful, safe, warm, drug and alcohol free space and loving community to anchor Members (those we support most closely) in the sustained recovery needed to gain and maintain access to housing, social and health services, healthy relationships, education, and employment. Our program is designed to help people maintain recovery, reduce relapse and fulfill their potential.

Recovery Café Network (RCN) is committed to nurturing groups seeking to start recovery communities based on the Recovery Café model. Through a cohort learning experience, groups and organizations are provided mentorship, materials, expertise, and facilitated learning opportunities to create a recovery community in their area. The Network is committed to helping those who join the Network be successful in starting their program, building recovery capital in their communities, and offering effective long-term recovery support for years to come.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Recovery Café Network (RCN) is seeking a dynamic Marketing and Communications Manager to help fulfill our mission of fostering healing communities. The successful candidate will be a creative thinker with excellent writing and interpersonal skills, a strong foundation in graphic design and data analytics, and the ability to adapt communication strategies for diverse audiences. They should be passionate about community-based healing initiatives and capable of translating RCN’s mission and impact across various platforms and stakeholder groups.

Reporting to the Associate Director of Engagement and Communications, the Marketing and Communications Manager will develop and guide the strategy for all RCN marketing and communications. Through strategic messaging and compelling content that showcases the impact of the Recovery Café Model, they will work to position RCN as a training entity and recognized national leader in the work to create healing communities. The Marketing and Communications Manager will ensure that RCN is viewed as the primary source, disseminator, and conduit of information about the Recovery Café Model and the RCN. Ultimately, this role will be instrumental in crafting and conveying a cohesive narrative about RCN’s identity and mission, strengthening our impact and reach.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Content Marketing and Brand Management

  • Enhance and edit RCN’s existing content gathered from Outreach, Training, and Engagement teams to showcase the impact of the Recovery Café Model to relevant audiences
  • Align organizational content to consistent brand standards
  • Design collateral and engagement materials like brochures, posters for events, swag, and one- pagers
  • Lead the generation of online content that engages audience segments and leads to the recruitment of adding 20 new Cafes per year

Performance Measurement and Strategic Planning

  • Use analytics from web, email, and media to understand communications performance and make data-driven decisions
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate the annual communications plan in collaboration with the Associate Director of Engagement and Communications
  • Track and measure the level of engagement within RCN audiences over time
  • Prepare regular reports on communication efforts and their impact
  • Audit and assess current and previous communications tools and strategies
  • Identify and leverage new communication channels to reach diverse audiences

Website and Digital Presence

  • Manage a website revamp project, in collaboration with the Associate Director, ensuring user- friendly design and content accessibility
  • Oversee the RCN website, ensuring content is up-to-date, engaging, and optimized for various user groups
  • Create and distribute a monthly e-newsletter highlighting stories of healing from across the Network
  • Develop and share content for social media and other platforms, tailoring messages for specific audience segments

Public Relations and External Communication

  • Collect, capture, and promote stories about Recovery Cafes that represent the values and mission of our work, and the unique accomplishments at Recovery Cafes
  • Position RCN as a recognized leader in creating healing communities
  • Coordinate media contacts alongside RCN leadership, adapting messaging for different media outlets
  • Write and distribute press releases and media advisories, ensuring clarity for diverse readerships
  • Serve as point of contact for vendors to maintain inventory of outreach materials, including swag orders, print companies, graphic designers, etc, as needed
  • Collaborate with and oversee contractors as necessary for video production and specialized design work

Internal Collaboration and Process Improvement

  • Organize and manage content shared from Cafes across the Network and create plans to strategically disseminate
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing and best communication and marketing practices across the Network
  • Collaborate with Monitoring and Evaluation Manager to present data in digestible format for various audiences
  • Develop and finetune internal best practices and processes for consistent, intentional communication

QUALIFICATIONS & ESSENTIAL SKILLS

  • 3+ years of relevant experience
  • Graphic Design for Collateral: Proficiency in creating visually appealing materials such as brochures, posters, and digital assets using industry-standard design software.
  • Analytics for Email/Web/Media Engagement: Strong ability to interpret and utilize data from various platforms to measure communication effectiveness and drive strategy
  • Content Adaptation for Diverse Audiences: Demonstrated experience in translating complex information for different audiences, with a vision for innovative communication methods.
  • Interpersonal and Collaboration Skills: Strong communication skills and ability to connect with people at various organizational levels; comfortable using email, phone, video conferencing, and other methods to collaborate across geographies and time zones; ability to work independently and with others
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, Adobe, WordPress, Canva, and Mailchimp; Experience with Salesforce is a plus
  • Organizational and Adaptability Skills: Excellent organizational skills and self-motivation; ability to work and thrive in a fast-paced, energetic, entrepreneurial environment; flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and workflows

DESIRED EXPERIENCE & ATTRIBUTES

  • Communication and Storytelling: Ability to capture RCN’s voice in written communications; excellent storytelling skills; and proficiency in conducting trauma-informed interviews with Cafés
  • Passion and Commitment: Strong desire to support individuals in recovery from trauma, addiction, mental illness, and/or homelessness; passion for the recovery journey, both personally and professionally
  • Experience and Background: Experience in a social service agency; personal experience with or exposure to individuals in recovery from addiction and other mental health challenges
  • Language Skills: Bilingual in Spanish and English
  • Adaptability and Collaboration: Willingness and ability to accommodate a flexible schedule; motivated by collaborating to create new structures, initiatives, and responses for a growing organization
  • Cultural Competence: Strong interest in working with diverse populations
