Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The Graphic Design Studio Director is responsible for balancing the demands related to external client projects and commissions with the provision of high-quality graphic design education to youth participants. The artist in this role works directly with high school aged students in on-site programming, maintaining the physical and cultural dimensions of their studio to ensure a safe, welcoming, inclusive, and empowering space in which youth participants learn foundational principles of art and design thinking. The Studio runs much like a small boutique design business, where you are the director and the teen artists are your creative and production staff.  Additionally, the Studio Director trains participants to work collaboratively with their peers as well as experienced professional artists to satisfactorily produce self-expressive work as well as client commissions.

 

Studio Direction

·       Plan appropriate lessons to generate participants’ artistic expression in addition to support for client commissions and Riverzedge Arts projects;

·       Create projects in alignment with Graphic Design Studio best practices that identifies and accounts for explicit learning and skill building outcomes;

·       Assist students in skill development in the areas of design thinking, critical thinking, time management and problem-solving while supporting participants’ generation of finished works of art;

·       Collaborate with the Artistic Director on the successful design and completion of  client-based and Riverzedge Arts projects.

 

Marketing and Brand Management

·       Track and maintain order histories and other data pertaining to the Graphic Design Studio;

·       Work with Artistic Director as needed on marketing outreach efforts and materials, specifically around fundraising and other program-related campaigns.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

·        Minimum of 2 years of previous experience working within a youth development, educational, of related environment.

·        3-5 years of experience as a freelance or otherwise working artist with experience managing the basic fiscal aspects of an arts business.

·        Demonstrated success in client recruitment and timely completion of client commissions.

·        Track record of successful collaboration with working artists.

·        Must be able to draft effective written communication for a variety of audiences.

Physical Requirements:

·        Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards;

·        Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards;

·        Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs;
