Sr. Safety Engineer

The Sr. Safety Engineer will be responsible for ensuring new equipment and modifications to existing equipment installed in operational Amazon buildings comply with all applicable safety codes, regulations and accredited standards. The Sr. Safety Engineer will need to partner with various design, engineering and operations teams including, WW Innovation and Design Engineering, Operations Engineering, Reliability and Maintenance, Business Operations Leaders, Field Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) teams, and other key stakeholders. The individual will be required to provide input on risk assessments and assist in the development and review of equipment designs and provide guidance on requirements on safety controls and devices. The Sr. Safety Engineer will also be required to lead safety engineering projects through the entire life-cycle of the project (from design to implementation). They must be an effective communicator and be able to send clear, concise and consistent messages, both verbally and in writing and possess excellent safety program management skills. This individual needs to be an expert in safety control systems and be knowledgeable in environmental and ergonomic design principles. They must also have applied understanding of North American safety regulations, codes and standards.
Responsibilities:
· Develop policies, standards training and safe operating procedures
· Interpret and apply regulations, codes, bylaws, and all relevant safety standards,
· Advise safety, engineering and operations teams on safety regulations and regulatory compliance concerns relating to process and equipment design
· Perform safety risk assessments, regulatory compliance reviews and ergonomic evaluations on equipment and operations processes.
· Participate in new standard developments with Engineering, Amazon Robotics, Injury Prevention Specialists, RME, Operations, and other key stakeholders.
· Work with various teams to review and approve designs of new equipment and modifications to existing equipment
· Must be independently driven to seek improvement opportunities in the safety review process.
· Maintain all regulatory compliance documentation from to ensure accurate and up to date adherence to set standards.
· Participate in the development of new organizational safety standards
· Managing projects that require certifications that comply with local, national and international regulations. Knowledge and understanding of equipment safety certification requirements (CE, UL, etc.) and experience working with NRTLs.
· Integration of safety control systems into the design of new and existing equipment.
· Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, FDA, NFPA, and other North American Federal / State regulations, codes and bylaws

Basic Qualifications


· Bachelor’s degree in engineering, safety, or a related field.
· 5+ years’ experience in Safety Engineering.
· Experience implementing lean principles and process improvement in an operational environment.
· Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, FDA, NFPA, and other North American Federal / State regulations, codes and bylaws.
· Knowledge of ANSI, CSA, ISO, and ASME Standards
· Ability to understand technical drawings and specifications.
· Comprehension and practical application of risk assessments.
· Understanding of machine safety certification and experience working with testing labs.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including comfort interfacing with site leaders.
· Experience engaging regulatory agencies.
· Proficiency with Microsoft office, Autocad,
· Able to travel 40 – 50%

Preferred Qualifications


· Master’s degree preferred – Mechanical, Structural, Electrical or Safety Engineer
· Distribution Center or Manufacturing Safety experience with mix of exempt and non-exempt employees preferred.
· Certified Safety Professional preferred
· Strong analytical skills with demonstrated problem solving ability.
· Strong written and oral communication skills.
· Ability to adapt well to fast-paced environments with changing circumstances, direction, and strategy ·
· Experience engaging regulatory agencies.
· Proficiency with Microsoft office, Autocad,
· Able to travel 40 – 50%
