Principal Program Manager, Workforce Planning for Talent Acquisition

The Team

The Workforce Planning Team provides centralized support for Worldwide Operations Talent Acquisition (WWOps TA). As Amazon’s global operations continue to grow exponentially, an optimized process for workforce and recruiting capacity planning are increasingly essential to our talent decision-making processes that enable growth at scale. Our analytics team provides critical talent insight in the form of deep labor and talent movement analysis and modeling. Our customers are supported by a team of dedicated advisors who enable strategic planning to both meet and anticipate business growth. The Principal Program Manager will manage the team’s strategic roadmap, accelerate collaboration with partner teams, and turn big ideas into reality.

The Role

In this role, you will be responsible for scoping and delivering complex global projects across Worldwide Operations. Responsibilities include collecting business requirements from internal customers, writing specifications, driving project schedules from design to release, and managing assessment content production, quality, launch and monitoring activities. You will serve as the primary point of contact between the Workforce Planning (WFP) team and partner technical teams managing product development. You will need to make appropriate trade-offs to optimize time-to-market, clearly communicate goals, roles, responsibilities, and desired outcomes to internal cross-functional and remote project teams. You will align related big ideas and strategy to create a comprehensive, aspirational and far-reaching roadmap for Workforce Planning.

The best candidate will possess a strong program management background and have demonstrated experience leading large projects. You must be able to succeed in an entrepreneurial environment and handle ambiguity and competing priorities. This means you are not only able to develop and drive high-level strategic initiatives, but can also roll up your sleeves, dig in, and get the job done in a tactical way. Documentation and narrative writing will be heavy in this role. As a Principal PM, you will anticipate bottlenecks and risks, provide escalation management, anticipate and make trade-offs, and balance the business needs versus technical constraints. You will drive work effectively through team members and partner teams, and manage change across a dynamic, global population. You will lead projects that will inform the development of new technology, so a basic understanding of the product development process is essential. An ability to take large, complex projects and break them down into manageable pieces, develop functional specifications, then deliver them in a successful and timely manner is expected. Maturity, high judgment, negotiation skills, ability to influence, analytical talent and leadership are essential to success in this role. An ideal candidate possesses strong leadership and mentoring skills to help develop the organization and teams to handle future scope growth as we scale the business.

Basic Qualifications

· 8+ years of work experience in program or product management, development, and/or implementation
· Ability to work with specialist research teams and operations communities at all levels of the organization to influence decisions and drive work forward
· Excellent verbal and written communication
· Demonstrated ability to build strong cross-functional partnerships and effectively manage relationships at all levels
· Demonstrated ability to influence without authority
· Familiarity with product development principles and agile methodologies

Preferred Qualifications

· Master’s degree or advanced technical degree
· Demonstrated experience working closely with research scientists and technical teams from idea generation through implementation
· Experience implementing new products or processes in operations
